Have your say on the future of the Motukaraka water take.

The Motukaraka supplementary water take supplies water from the Maramarua River to the Kopuera channel.

The water take was established by Franklin District Council (FDC) and inherited by Waikato Regional Council when FDC was dissolved as part of the creation of Auckland Council.

The consent for this water take has expired and the current costs associated with its continuation (including asset depreciation and maintenance) are no longer sustainable under the current rating model. Moreover, those that benefit from the water take are not fully contributing to the cost of its management.

We know this water take has played an important role over the years in supporting the productivity of surrounding farmland. So, we want to make sure ratepayers who may benefit from or rely on it get the opportunity to have their say on its future.
